Hardy Boys and Nancy Drew Mysteries, The

EXCEPT IT was mostly the Hardy Boys who appeared after those odd close-up-of-manhole-cover titles. Middling adventures, with the tedium alleviated momentarily by playing amusing Hardy/Nancy wordswapping game with the title. PAMELA SUE “DYNASTY” MARTIN starred for a bit.

Pamela Sue Martin went a bit strange around the time of this show, appearing naked in Playboy and that film The Lady in Red (nothing to do with Chris de Burgh). Then it was back to TV and more wholesome stuff.

Did you know producer Glen A. Larson wrote the fantastically wonky theme tune to this? Jack of all trades, there.

I do remember one episode that was set in Romania and involved a detective trying to be a vampire, or something on those lines, and the two groups of teenagers forming a pop group. It was the sort of show that the BBC showed in the summer when Doctor Who and Basil Brush were on a break and was considered wholesome family entertainment.

Parker Stevenson was the other one, and they both had better hair than Pamela.
