The single best sitcom ever. That is all.

‘The single best sitcom ever. That is all.’

Indeed. And at 12 episodes, it didn’t outstay its welcome like so many other shows.

‘Greatest sitcom ever made’ status fully deserved…
…but I still say the Waldorf Salad episode was a bit rubbish.

I always liked the Waldorf Salad episode.

John Cleese considers The Builders to be the weakest one, mostly because it wasn’t made with a live audience, I presume because of the lobby set needing to be changed around a lot during the show.

The only weak one I can remember was the one with Australian girl, though last time I saw it it seemed funnier than I remember.

The one with the Australian is The Psychiatrists, which is surely one of the very best episodes. Undoubtedly one of finest things every produced by the BBC, it must also have one of the most rickety-looking sets – that wall on the stairs wobbles about like it’s made of cardboard. Plus – aye carumba! – Connie Booth!

There’s a very funny out-take where John Cleese notices a wall is wobbling & starts tapping it! I think it was featured on a BBC Christmas Tape before being used on The Auntie’s Bloomers.

The Anniversary grew on me as I became older, but that and The Builders are the weakest of the 12 episodes. My favourite is Basil The Rat, a biscuit with your rat?
