Callan

Ed roots out reds under the bedJohn warns his Eurosceptic rebels: "It is time to put up, or shut up!"EDWARD WOODWARD plays hard-as-fuck secret service “loose cannon” moping and snarling his way through Cold War Britain occasionally assisted by smelly sidekick called Lonely. Seminal in every sense, not least the swinging bare light bulb opening titles.

Sorry, missed the obvious four-programme tribute to Mr. Woodward. Nice touch.

Check out the film version as well as this was my first introduction to the brutal world of Callan. In the film he kills Dave Prowse in a display of karate Bruce Lee would be proud of.

Imagine James Bond done by Harold Pinter and this is how Callan was, a loner who led a depressing, downbeat life and relied on an informant whom he sometimes beat up for information who lived in a filthy bedsit.
