Hobbit, The/Lord Of The Rings

Anyone got a wheelbarrow?PETER JACKSON-trouncing epic-length Tolkein adaptations, equipped with copious amounts of varispeeded voices and Radiphonic Workshop ‘early music’ goose-torture, much beloved of family audiences on long car journeys and ‘newsletter’-publishing sci-fi freaks alike. Anthony Jackson, Ian Holm, Michael Hordern, John Le Mesurier, David Collings, Simon Cadell, Peter Vaughan, Francis ‘Jedikiah’ De Wolff, Leonard ‘Dr Legg’ Fenton and a very young Bill Nighy were amongst those allowing unspeakable things to be done to their recorded vocals. Rightly revered as the best adaptations of the lot and quality dramas in their own right, and famously released on cassette in a box set that took up entire floors of branches of WH Smiths.

“Attack Thorin with the short strong sword!”

Anyone remember The Hobbit videogame on the C64, Speccie, BBC, etc? The BBC game was so large it took 15 minutes to load on cassette!

Yes, ok, it’s a bit nerdy to like this kind of thing but truth be told, the radio version of LOTR is vastly superior to those bloody films.

    You attack Thorin.
But the effort is wasted, his defence is
    too strong.
    Thorin attacks -YOU-!
With one well placed blow Thorin
    cleaves your skull.
    You are dead.
