TV Cream Stays Indoors With Billy Kirkwood

Another episode of our lockdown podcast series.

This week, Billy Kirkwood stays indoors in Crookedholm, Kilmarnock, to watch an episode of the 1997 Channel 4 panel show, Space Cadets (http://bit.ly/TVCIndoors02). Then he tells TV Cream all about it.

If you don’t want to listen to it using our player (above), then download it (23.3 MB).

Other ways to listen are Apple Podcasts, Stitcher, Spotify and this is our RSS feed.

And here it is on Soundcloud…

Very good point about needing some affection for the subject for this type of thing or else it just looks “ugly”, but if you’re a bit embarrassed about it, as they seemed to be on Space Cadets, then it gets a bit clunky. It wasn’t quite cool enough yet.

“Klaatu barada nikto!” is a line from 1951’s The Day the Earth Stood Still (Greg mispronounces it), that was reused as a joke in Army of Darkness (which definitely is affectionate).

I’ve still got a tape of Space Cadets around that I don’t think I’ve watched in 20 years.

Somehow it didn’t get reused & when I was getting short of blank tapes I realised it had enough interesting guests & such to make it worth keeping.

Billy Kirkwood is an interesting choice of guest… perhaps Creamguide Films can do a commentary of his ‘Cops and Monsters’ amazon show *sneer, belittle, armchair critic, etc*

However, addendum, Klaatu, Barada and Nikto were also Star Wars aliens – in Jabba’s emply to be precise. Plus the pilot of ‘Space Cadets’ was part of the very Glasgow based, Channel 4 Sci Fi weekend of 1995.
