RODGERS, Anton

rodgersNever mind the muted trumpet-themed sitcom years, the early ’60s saw Anton turn out a slew of capable turns (though admittedly seldom much more than capable, banged out in weeks as these pictures were) as part of the Danziger Productions rep company in such no-nonsense cheapies as triumph-over-injury heartstring tugger Crash Drive and light marital comedy Part-Time Wife. Carry Ons, horror and musicals were to follow before that rocking chair silhouette called him back to the small screen.

FINEST HOUR: Must be another no-brainer: that triumphantly jolly song and dance number atop Albert Finney’s coffin in Scrooge. ‘A-that’s the ni-cest thing thaddanyonezevah dun, fo’, meeee!’
