Kevin Kline ‘does’ comedy. No he bloody well doesn’t. And had there ever been so much fuss over such a trivial role as when John Cleese played the sheriff in this? How original, they all cried, an English sheriff! Ha-hi-hilarious! Never been done! If you don’t count The Sheriff of Fractured Jaw with the splendid – and actually funny – Kenneth More, that is. Harrumph. Ah well, at least he sort of reprised the role as the evil cat baddie in American Tale II: Fievel Goes West, which goes some way to making up for it.
