Cushing’s back as the Baron, now almost totally mad with frustration at buggering up his past experiments, donning all-over facial bandaging, lopping heads off on the streets of London like there’s no tomorrow and hacking fellow mad prof Freddie Jones about in the straightest and, yes the word may be used here, darkest Hammer for ages. Highlights – Thorley Walters, Windsor Davies and Geoffrey Bayldon as the nearest thing going to comic relief coppers, that arm flopping around in the mud when the water main bursts, and the final gruesome conflagration. Low point – the cynically tacked-on rape scene none of the cast wanted to do.
