Silly to the point of self parody late period Hammer romp with Ralph Bates as the semi-eponymous physician imbibing a dodgy concoction in the name of research which leaves him periodically transforming into the frighteningly similar-looking Martine ‘Longstreet’ Beswick, and legging it around the coddest of cod-Victorian Londons you ever did see for a gory killing spree.

It may be a silly premise, but this film has lots to enjoy. Linking up Jekyll/Hyde with the Ripper murders and Burke and Hare too is a hoot. There’s also one impressive one-shot scene where Jekyll transforms into his female counterpart in front of a mirror with no edits or CGI. Martine Beswick is beautiful, and Ralph Bates looks uncannily like Ray Davies of The Kinks in this too.
