Blood from the Mummy’s Tomb

Supposedly cursed but really rather good early ’70s Hammer, with the bounteous Valerie ‘It Might as Well be String’ Leon to the fore as an ancient Egyptian queen reborn as the daughter of archaeologist Andrew ‘Quatermass’ Kier (stepping in for a recently bereaved Peter Cushing, which is where those daft curse rumours started from). Cue possession of vampish daughter, an episodic quest for various ornaments, a severed hand on the rampage, some animal statues coming to life in perilous sub-marionation, and plenty of torn-out throatlets.

Not forgetting James Cossins (“I’m nothing to do with any hotel guide, I sell outboard motors!”) as a sadistic and ambiguously gay asylum staffer, and Aubrey ‘Mr Deltoid’ Morris as a doctor with big Roy Orbison shades. Valerie still steals the film, mind.
