Anniversary, The

Eyepatch and cigarette holder-toting widowed matriarch Bette Davis dominates her three meek sons as one of them prepares to marry Sheila Hancock in this bizarre black comedy. Anyone know if Sheila Hancock’s eyepatch in the St Trinian’s films was a self-indulgent homage to this classic? We bet it was.

Mostly remember this one for James Cossens as the older son with a liking for women’s underwear. He was actually quite touching. It’s hard to remember watching this that Bette Davis actually did good movies along the way.

Boys, boys, boys, one of them prepares to marry his bird, the gormless one who, in a fit of bravery (or acute stupidity), has the audacity to call The Mother “Old One Eye”. One is already married to Sheila Hancock, who, if you remember, can “spit ’em out like bullets”.
