There has never been a more overwhelmingly ‘seventies’ film than Carrie, what with the Argento-ish lighting, the soft-focus soft-porn title sequence, the abundance of browns, beiges and tans, the flares, the paisley shirts, John Travolta looking like a prize plum, the Farrah Fawcett haircuts, the slow motion, the split-screen malarkey, the visual pyrotechnics, the sledgehammer lack of subtlety…but it’s STILL a bloody fantastic film.
