Mollie Sugden has died, aged 86.
How you remember her depends on where you came in:
1) the 60s, when she stickybeaked her way around Weatherfield as Nellie Harvey;
2) the 70s, when she split her time between being Nerys Hughes’s mum and working in the most threadbare department store in the world;
3) the 80s, when she was still working in the most threadbare department store in the world despite the inversely proportional ratio of ‘sales drives’ to customers, but also being a housekeeper forever walking in on Christopher Blake in a compromising position; or
4) the 90s, when she lounged on a giant sofa in the That’s Life! studio reading newspaper clippings before getting stuck climbing in and out of windows of Millstone Manor.
Come back, Mrs Noah!…
…ah, too late.

Would you get away these days with a “comedy” programme which contained constant references to what was happening to her pussy?

Are you kidding? It’d be Sky 1’s flagship programme. There’d be billboards for it everywhere.

Very sad – but what I want to know is, will Sky News be recalling Kay Burley from LA to stand outside Mrs Sugden’s home 24 hours a day with a big microphone?
