Every time someone at TV Cream Towers watches an old episode of Blankety Blank, a familiar, hoary question soon surfaces: who would be the best person to host a successful revival?
As ever we have to make a distinction between who should ideally do it, and who would inevitably do it.
The latter category, depressingly, is full of names such as Vernon Kay, Graham Norton and John Barrowman: capable anchors but no Blank-ors.
Nope, there’s only one person who could bring the right dosage of weather-beaten charm, syntactical poise and celebrity backchat.
And that person is Les Dennis.
As for the line-up of panellists on the first show of the new series, it should be:
Back left: Rolf Harris
Back middle: Barbara Windsor
Back right: Huw Edwards
Front left: Kirsty Young
Front middle: David Mitchell
Front right: Claudia Winkleman
But it invariably would be:
Back left: Michael Parkinson
Back middle: One of the Loose Women
Back right: Steve Wright
Front left: Fearne Cotton
Front middle: James Corden
Front right: Davina McCall

Ah, sorry, it’s Aimi McDonald isn’t it? Surely she and Dora Bryan should be swapping seats?
