It’s the 1990s, which means Danny Baker is arriving at or is leaving or has just resigned from another radio station. But wait; who’s that bursting through the door in time for another “tsk, look at us?!” photo opportunity? It’s Chris Evans, on his way from, or to, a job at a different radio station, or possibly the same one, for his first or last programme until the next one. But wherever they are on your radio, you can be sure it ain’t no country show.

Right, well, clearly it’s Talk, which Evans never worked for but Baker was at from 1997 to 1999, for my money, with Danny Kelly, some of the best work he ever did. That was a Ginger Radio production, but while Jamie off the breakfast show was BA it was actually produced for most of its run by future Jupitus stooge Phil Wilding, apparently on the back of his having done this show. For a national radio station with Rajar-overthrowing ambitions it doesn’t exactly look like the world’s biggest radio studio, does it?

I can’t really add much to what Simon said there, other than that on occasion, those Talk Radio shows reduced me to helpless tears of laughter (Gordon’s bow tie, Die Hard Sean, the gay football fantasies and Danny Kelly’s deathless lists of foreign footballers spring immediately to mind).

Evans was tipped to present breakfast on Talk Radio after he quit R1 in 1997…but of course resurfaced on Virgin. He stopped being funny in about Jan/Feb of 1998…well ahead of Sky One’s flawed decision to televise the radio show later that year.

Is he genuinely any good on R2 now? I can’t be arsed to listen

Well, there’s one talented broadcaster in the picture. And it’s not the ginger one. The only funny lines Evans ever came out with on TFI Friday were the ones the Bakertollah had written for him – you could spot them a mile off.

As we know, there’s no “off” position on the genius switch.

And memory fails me on the lady who was, erm, ‘involved’ with many footballers/coaches and her weekly updates.

I have a promo video of Evans’ Sky One show – and have no idea why. Maybe it’ll be worth a fortune one day, as will the Chris Evans Radio One roadshow banner someone nicked and sold on eBay that I also bought…..

Joanne! Who’d been involved with three ‘beaus’ and a manager, and later became intimate – on the coach once, as I recall – with another player. And later moved to Australia and married a prominent Aussie rules player, we’re led to believe.
