Love the likely lads song more, but it could also stand alone on its on merits for me; the some mothers theme is a lovely ‘disposable’ but oh so descriptive and memorable theme.

The WEHT the Likely Lads theme is very appropriate for this website, so tempted to go for that one – but check out the fat bass on Are You Being Served? That’s a great theme tune.

Whatever Happened To The Likely Lads is just an amazing track, theme tune or not. It gets my vote.

Second place, though my least favourite show of the four, is ‘Are You Being Seved’. I just love how busy it is. There’s tons going on, and the added voice over is great.

Got to acknowledge the brilliance of the Are You Being Served tune with the Floydian cash register but it’s got to be WEHT The Likely Lads, perfect 70’s pop and now puts me into fits of nostalgic longing whenever I hear it.

As someone on Twitter’s just pointed out, the best one isn’t featured – the awesome Man about the House. It’st the jauntiest, cheekiest tune ever! Great title sequences too. I always love the look on Paula Wilcox’s face when she watches her lost shoe disappearing from the back of the bus. Absolutely my favourite sitcom theme tune.

Tough one this, as I’ve always had a sneaking affection for the ‘Sorry!’ theme and those neon pinball-style titles, much better than the show itself. I also like the theme from ‘Are You Being Served?’, but in the end it had to be ‘WHTTLL’ – 1970s Britain in sitcom form, and the theme was later covered by The Lightning Seeds.

I read somewhere that the “Sorry” theme tune wasn’t written for “Sorry” at all, but for a soap/drama about a yuppie populated wine bar (which sounds like the eightiest TV programme ever) that never got commissioned, so the theme got repurposed.

I’ve also heard of the Sorry theme being writted for a drama, but more of an urban soap like Empire Road.

That might just be a figment of my imagination.

Surely it’s ‘Have You Been Served?’. That’s what that footie manager called it!

I love the Likely Lads theme, but it had to be Sorry! for this vote. As a memorable sitcom theme it can’t be beat.

Most memorable for me is Some Mothers Do ‘Ave ‘Em – takes me right back to Saturday nights in the seventies. That – plus its odd time signature, morse code composition – makes me a little queasy hearing it to this day.
If I had to pick a favourite I guess it would be AYBS?

I’d say the Likely Lads. The Goodies theme was great fun. There was also “The Glorious Day” which was sung by Robert Lindsay at the end of Citizen Smith. And who could forget “Land of hope and glory. Mother of the free…. SHUT UUUUUUP!”
