Xmas 1988 was the first showing of Back To The Future on UK TV. I had the recording on video for many years afterwards.
There was also a good Last Of The Summer Wine special on Xmas Eve.
I think in 1983 Flash Gordon was the “big film”.

Yep, at 1983 you had ‘Getting Sam Home’, surely the best episode of Last of the Summer Wine ever. And dear old All Creatures Great and Small came back from the dead. Not to mention Thames’s Boxing day treat of Cosgrove Hall’s animation of Wind in the Willows. ’83 was a winner!
