TV Cream

A bit of business

Did you once see this man and/or woman?

Opening up the lever arch file marked Photos That Need To Be Added To The New TV Cream Website, our attention was caught by a number of dusty prints of uncertain origin. In other words, stuff we can’t match up to any programmes we can readily remember.

A few leftover Simon Mayo Golden Hour ‘points’ to anyone who can identify the following…

Plates 1 & 2:

"Can I press you to a dry sherry?" Tony investigates a rather different kind of seam

Plates 3 & 4:

"Who's this for? Radio Times? Is that still edited by Geoffrey Cannon?" And...cue the ejaculation of repressed guilt!

Plates 5 & 6:

A grown-up pretending to be a kid...this has the whiff of Potter "There's definitely something going on here" "Yes"

Plates 7 & 8:

"No dry sherry?" The Ealing rubber plants get their annual dust-off

I’m going to say that Plate 4 is ‘Poldark’ – and to prove it, here’s a page from the Radio Times showing exactly the same picture:

(Oh, and I hereby claim my point…)

Damn, all I could identify was plate 4 as Poldark, as well. Was that put there as the obligatory ‘easy’ one?

    Number 3… Friday Night’s “Gangsters”.

Plate 3 is from the 70s BBC series “Gangsters”. That’s Maurice “Howard’s Way” Colbourne on the left.

Hmmm, is plate 8 from Rasputin: The Mad Monk? Hammer films (1966). It looks like it might be an informal between takes shot. Here’s a link with more pictures, in the bottom 2 images you can see the costume is the same

In Plate 2, the person in the middle (wearing glasses) is surely a very young Tony Robinson before he became Baldrick or the Channel 4 archaeology correspondent

In fact I’ll add to my previous post of a few minutes ago….the other man in Plate 2 is Peter Jones, and I reckon it’s from “The Rag Trade” (two of them are wearing tape measures)

I’m on a run now……….Plate 1 the man in the middle with the suit is australian actor who was everywhere on British TV in the 60s and 70s – Ray Barrett; Plate 7 the man on the right is the same Ray Barrett. How about both from “The Troubleshooters”.

Is number 2 from the remake, in the ’70s, of The Rag Trade. That looks like Peter Jones on the right of the photo.

Plate 7 is from Blue Remembered Hills. And 8 is Louise Jameson and James Hazeldine in The Omega Factor. Is 8 The Wednesday Play: Wine of India?

Cheers folks, much appreciated. Three points (originally for ‘Set Me Free’ by Jaki Graham) to be shared among all of you.

Is Plate 5 from David Moye’s Outback Frog Attack? Plate 4 is definitely News at Ten, with Trevor McDonald and Beatrix Potter IV.
