TV Cream

A bit of business

Bob says can you set the video, please?

We’re still glowing from Monday night’s THE SECRET LIFE OF BOB MONKHOUSE on BBC4. And “oodles” of thanks go to TV Cream’s own Chris Hughes for diligently transcribing Bob’s list of shows for Lesley to record (as featured fleetingly in the programme) while Lord Monkhouse and Jacs were holidaying in Barbados.

NB: We think “W.&W” means “Watch and wipe”.

So, without further a do, Lesley, is that your fax machine we can hear?

This is lovely to see. The only thing that’s slightly disappointing is that I’d not realised UK Gold had ever repeated The Bob Monkhouse Show around then, quite inconveniently a time when I had no access to UK Gold. (Oh, and that he’d been taping Bushell On The Box, but I’d presume that’s just because it’s a programme about TV, and he certainly didn’t deem it worth keeping.)

Indeed, and those UK Gold repeats were preceded by a short, newly-recorded intro from Bob, eulogising about the comics we were about to see, which is probably why he was taping something he already had.

I like the fact that he was so desperate not to miss anything that he requested both transmissions of the first-ever TFI Friday, in case the late-night repeat turned out to be a different show.

It’s very rare to find anything about Anne’s Bar, which I remember Channel 4 hyping up but was a struggle to watch.

It was sitcom about a new MP, which sounded ok on paper, but was made confusing by having so many supporting characters featured with little in the way of introduction.

I can’t remember if I watched any of it apart from the first episode.

Annie’s Bar was (one of the few things) made by Prince Edward’s Ardent Productions, if I remember correctly.

The late-night TFI repeat was initially the same show as earlier, but latterly it would incorporate an extra post-watershed “naughty bit”, slotted in IIRC at the beginning of one of the parts. Evans’ browsing through a risque calendar, featuring some supermodel or other, is one example I remember. 😉

The human version of the Sky+ box, always with favourites highlighted!

But with Bushell on the Box, may I say…

Oooh, look its LWT’s Femi Oke!

But also admit to the owning of the rehashed Bushell on the Box DVD, just Garry in front of Greenscreen reading out some of his articles…

Bushell On The Box was rubbish but strangely watchable, like a lot of ITV’s overnight stuff. Does anyone remember Night Shift with Mr. Bennett?

Yes, I do! Mr Bennett with security guards or meat packing plant! Strangely addictive at 3am!

Do Kaleidoscope own The Collection? Or is it owned by The Monkhouse Estate?
