Thanks, a distraction from me commenting about bollocks on http://www.chud.com/community/forums/posts/by_user/id/186592
Thanks, for being not the only one who desperately confuses Aubrey Woods with Colin Jeavons. The fact they were both in Who makes it even more confusing. I always forget which one was Max Quordlepleen and Donald Duckface.

My problem with the 2005 one is that it is more true in design and story to the original, and David Kelly is great in it, as is Tony Carpenter from Eastenders, and it has Mark Heap, Kevin Eldon, etc, and I did briefly prefer it. And it has Masood off Eastenders as Prince Pondicherry, but Depp just dooms it. He’s too creepy, and he comes across as a little young, despite being actually five years older than Wilder was.
Dahl didn’t like it. He forbid them from doing a sequel. Dahl wanted Milligan and the studio wouldn’t have him, and then he suggested Jon P’twee, and P’twee was at that point well into Who, and couldn’t do it, and then got pissed off and a while later, when

I always think that Great Glass Elevator was just an attempt to reuse bits from Dahl’s script for You Only Live Twice – both have plots with kidnapped US astronauts, etc.

It’s pronounced Wall-per, with a W sound, David Wolper, the producer, mainly a TV guy, king of the miniseries – eg, ROOTS, The Thorn Birds, etc.

Esp. since Aubrey Woods was in the radio version of Hitchhiker’s, and Jeavons in the TV version.

Veruca, Julie Dawn Cole had a weird career -she was in Poldark, she was Cargill’s daughter in Many Wives of Patrick, she was in Galloping Galaxies and on This Morning as afashion expert or summat.

I’d like to make a dull techie point to suck all the joy out of this.

Can you say on these if you’re watching the UK DVD or the Bluray please? Because of PAL DVD speeding, they run at different speeds.

Usually I don’t give a shit but, for a change, I’m wanting to actually watch this with the film.

Did I say before that I love these?

Another similarly toned film comes to mind, but nowhere near as good. William Castle’s Shanks – a vehicle for Marcel Marceau from 1974, about a puppeteer who uses remote control corpses, but it is actually supposed to be a sweet and fluffy story. It’s almost the reverse of Wonka, has a similarly weird Mittel Euro-suburban American setting, except it was shot in California, and the performers are all OTT in a really negative way.

I’ll have to give this a try now that I have the blu ray, the commentary track on it’s quite good with the main cast giving some fun anecdotes.
