The Hit Factory – The Stock Aitken and Waterman Story
21.00, ITV1
In recent years, people seem to have grown to, if not love, than certainly respect the work of Matt, Mike and Sir Pete, given that when they were in their pomp they were abused by all quarters, imagine the kind of stuff Simon Cowell gets these days and treble it. It was probably the sheer quantity of stuff they churned out that was their downfall as for every undeniably brilliant record they released – Kylie, Dead or Alive, that ace Cliff song, When You Come Back To Me by Jason Donovan – there seemed to be about half a dozen rotten autopilot ones – Kakko, Shooting Party, the worst Band Aid song, more or less everything else by Jason Donovan. They were certainly more innovative than they ever got credit for, with the likes of The Hitman Roadshow allowing teenage girls to see a million acts for two quid, and I’m Rather Jack is surely one of the few top ten hits w ith the word “demographic” in the lyrics, and Sir Pete’s always worth listening to so this should be a highly entertaining hour.
