The Olympics Opening Ceremony
19.00, BBC1
The early drafts of today’s schedule had the build-up down as running all day from 9am, though sadly that was a typo and it’s only on for a few hour-long chunks from noon with Bargain Hunt and the rest in between, which is a shame because we bet they could have filled it all as well. Everyone always moans about this kind of thing but we’ll all be getting dead into it by now and we’re just looking forward to loads of really shambolic live television. Then the whole thing begins in earnest and no matter what your views are on the cost or the organisation, we surely won’t see anything like it again so it deserves a watch for novelty’s sake at least. And because Huw Edwards is commentating you can always pretend it’s a better version of the worst ever episode of Doctor Who.

I must admit I’m starting to get Olympics fatigue because there’s no escaping it,and it hasn’t started yet. But I loved Fear Her – I thought it was one of the best ever episodes of Doctor Who!
I’ve been watching BBC News which has been in full live coverage mood with Jon Sopel menacing people as they entered the stadium.
