Not sure we really have anyone like Viv Stanshall left anymore who could merrily traipse around the arts and be highly entertaining whatever he was doing. He was also responsible for a highly memorable moment on the late night BBC2 miscellany Up Sunday where he managed to cut himself on a broken glass and bleed all over the set, which has presumably been wiped because we’d love to see that. A relentlessly silly man, this documentary hasn’t been on for years so it’ll be a lovely listen.
Taped it – yes, that’s right, TAPED, you digital swines, you – haven’t listened to it yet, though; assuming it’s as ace as it promises to be. Also worth mentioning is the new reissue of his 1974 album Men Opening Umbrellas Ahead – that’s the one with Winwood & Capaldi from Traffic on it, African drums all over the shop, and a composition about his penis. Just so you know.
