In the chart of Best Things In The Daily Express, Rupert would surely come top by absolutely miles. Number two would probably be the back page, because then it’s finished. The Rupert annual used to be a familiar presence under the Christmas tree for the pre-pubescent Creamguide, as it was for a host of other people including Mark Radcliffe, who presents this programme, and Terence Stamp and Terry Jones who are interviewed. Better yet, because it’s on the radio we won’t see the terrifying extreme close-up opening titles of the series.
It’s with fond memories in the mid-seventies of getting the afore-mentioned Christmas annual and with the help of a Christmassy delivered mini-torch as well, much post-6am reading was done under the bed sheets (never a duvet then, they didn’t exist). Sigh….
