Those of us who shared flats in the nineties will doubtless remember sitting through at least one episode of Whiley’s terminally tedious and inexplicably long-running Channel Four series which attempted to seriously, you know, talk about music but generally ended up with Whiley joylessly interrogating bored and boring indie bands about nothing in particular. Now it’s back, with Jo once again, it says here, “discussing trends in the music industry”, though now she’s on Radio 2 she doesn’t have to try so hard and Julian Lennon is one of her guests. We’re not sure why we’re billing this, actually.
I worked in a warehouse in 1997 where some sadist inflicted her equally joyless Lunchtime Session on workers who would much rather hear the golden oldies on the local station. One wag decided to drive his forklift truck over the radio, silencing this annoying woman introducing some indie dirge only she could appreciate. It was like being freed from a life sentence.
