Yule be the judge: the grand final

"Deck your balls with bows of holly... ooh, hang on!"

Thanks to everyone who has joined in our quest to find the greatest ever year for Christmas television.

Somewhat surprisingly (to us anyway), the three finalists are years of which most people at TV Cream Towers have vague or even no first-hand memory.

In addition, we have spectacularly failed to rig the poll so a year from the mid or late 1980s made the cut.

Ah well. Here, then, are the candidates. Over to you!

  • Which of the following years was the best for Christmas TV?

    • 1977 (BBC1: Songs of Praise, Generation Game, Mike Yarwood, Morecambe & Wise, Funny Girl; ITV: Emu's Christmas Adventures, Muppet Show, Sale of the Century, Stars on Sunday, Stanley Baxter) (49%, 65 Votes)
    • 1981 (BBC1: The Generation Game, Jim'll Fix It, Last of the Summer Wine, The Two Ronnies, Dallas; ITV: Dr No, This is Your Life, The Muppet Movie, Game for a Laugh, It'll Be Alright On The Night 3) (41%, 55 Votes)
    • 1973 (BBC1: Black & White Minstrels, Mike Yarwood, Generation Game, Morecambe & Wise, The Odd Couple; ITV: Chipperfield Circus; All Star Comedy Carnival; Tommy Cooper; Von Ryan's Express) (10%, 14 Votes)

    Total Voters: 134
