Simon Tyers has written in to TV Cream, suggesting the following…

He says: “Here’s a TV-am report on Madonna’s first UK gig from August 1987, which actually doesn’t seem too odd in these BBC Breakfast days until it gets back to the studio, where their man on the spot turns out to have been Gary ‘NFL Blitz’ Imlach in the most suave 1980s suit possible, and then Richard Keys coaxes comment on the nature of pop hype from Jimmy Greaves, who really does seem to have been TV-am’s man for all occasions at the time.”

Someone should transcribe Michelle McFadyean’s contribution and hand it out at X Factor auditions. The difference between this and BBC Breakfast is that the contributors are allowed to talk for longer than three seconds without being interrupted. It’s all very illuminating until Keys suddenly turns into Jimmy Carr.
